I'm Tom Hankinson. Here you can find out all about my progress on my walk from one end of the UK to the other. I started out in February 2012, and finished in the late Spring of 2015. I did it in a number of sessions, usually of a week or so. This blog covers the overall plan and has posts for each day's actual progress.
The Challenge
Only 874 miles to John O'Groats? As the crow flies? By road? On foot? I couldn't find out which.
Not the way I walked. There's a price to pay to go the most attractive way, and to use the major long-distance national trails for as much of the trip as possible.
As it turned out, the total distance was over 1,300 miles. That included a few mistakes, but essentially was just because I didn't go by the most direct route.
It was still only half-light when I took the Land's End picture. But it was sunny for the photograph at the other end three years later.
